Apartment Living

Strawberry MargaritaFresh air and sunshine make spring an ideal time for cocktails with friends. Residents of apartments in Denver who aren’t sure what to serve can use the following cocktail suggestions for inspiration.

STRAWBERRY MARGARITAS

Simply add strawberries to your favorite margarita recipe and you’ve got a great, signature cocktail for a spring bash. To sweeten the deal, use sugar to rim the glass instead of salt, and add a bit of whipped cream as a final touch.

PEACH CHAMPAGNE COCKTAILS

Mix equal parts of Champagne or any other sparkling wine, club soda, and peach brandy. For extra peachy goodness, float freshly sliced peaches in every drink. These are excellent when strained with ice through a cocktail shaker and served in tall, fluted glasses.

GREEN TEA MOJITOS

All you have to do to make these is add white rum to iced green tea and stir in some sugar if you like things on the sweet side. Serve this in tall highball glasses for a classic cocktail experience. Garnish with fresh mint.

ROSEMARY GIN AND TONICS

For another easy twist on an old classic, simply garnish a traditional gin and tonic with a sprig of crushed rosemary. Crushing it helps release the rosemary’s essential oils, which add a delightfully complex layer of herbal notes to the gin’s juniper tang.

MINT JULEPS

Making mint juleps is easy. All you need is bourbon, water, shaved ice, and fresh mint. As with the rosemary in the above cocktail, crushing the mint helps set the herb’s inner oils free. These make a natural signature cocktail if you’re throwing a Kentucky Derby party in your apartment, but even if you’re not, it’s a great drink to enjoy outdoors on a warm spring day.

HURRICANES

As the quintessential Mardi Gras cocktail, Hurricanes are a classic harbinger of spring. If you’ve got dark rum, passionflower syrup, and a fresh lemon, you can make a great Hurricane cocktail. Just mix two ounces of rum with an ounce each of freshly squeezed lemon juice and passionflower syrup and enjoy it on the rocks.
