We know that the residents of our Denver Apartments feel great about making resolutions. When New Year’s Day arrives, however, those resolutions start to look a little less exciting. If you’re struggling to keep your resolutions, we’re here to help.

MAKE YOUR GOALS CLEAR

Proclaiming that this is the year you’re going to lose those extra pounds isn’t exactly a clear goal. Neither is a determination to save more money. Instead, set clear goals and write them down. For example, decide to lose fifteen pounds or accumulate $5,000 in a savings account by December 31.

MARK YOUR PROGRESS

No matter what your goals are, they will all be completed in small increments. Keep track of every time you make measurable progress on your goals. Whether it’s on a big poster in your kitchen or in a private journal, being able to visualize your journey will help keep you on track.

ENLIST A BUDDY

For some people, accountability is a big motivator. For others, simply having the encouragement of a good friend is the support they need. Whether you’re looking for a drill sergeant to ring your phone at 6:00 a.m. to holler at you to get to the gym or you want someone to give you a high-five for putting $10 in your savings rather than spending it at Starbucks, a friend will help you find success.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF

Remember, the purpose of a resolution is usually to make life better for yourself. There’s nothing good about beating yourself up when you slip up or lose a bit of progress. First, start out knowing that you’re likely to stumble once or twice on your road to success. Prepare in advance for these moments so you don’t give up entirely. Forgive yourself, remind yourself why you began in the first place, and start moving forward again.
