New Year’s Resolution Ideas for Your Dog

  |     |   Pets

petsNew Year’s is a time for reflecting on the past 12 months while looking ahead to the upcoming year. We often make New Year’s resolutions for ourselves, but have you ever considered making them for your pets? Consider these ideas for New Year’s resolutions for your dog:

Go On More Walks

There are few things dogs love more than being taken on a walk, and your pup will go bananas if you take them out more! It’s also great for their digestion, weight control, and overall health. They’ll even sleep better, which means more sleep for you, too. A simple stroll around the neighborhood is enough, or drive to a park and try a trail you haven't been on before to keep things interesting for both of you.

Teach Them a New Trick

Dogs are great learners and happier when stimulated. Resolve to teach them a new trick each month (or at least every other month). It will be great fun for both of you, and your pet will love the extra attention.

Find a Great Dog Park

Another way to ensure your dog gets plenty of exercise is by bringing them to a dog park. Research parks in your area and resolve to take them at least once per week. Many dog parks have online reviews submitted by other dog owners so you will be able to screen for the best features, park hours, and more! It's a great way to socialize your dog and meet other pet owners, too.

Get Their Teeth Cleaned

Dogs can get cavities just like humans. While you likely take your dog to the vet for annual checkups, many dog owners skip teeth cleaning and addressing oral health. Make this the year you get your dog's teeth cleaned from a qualified veterinarian.

Switch to Higher Quality Food

If you haven't already, start feeding your dog food that is customized to their size, breed and health needs. Your vet can assist you in finding the ideal brand and type.

The New Year is full of new possibilities! When you’re making your own resolutions, take the time to make some for your dog as well. If you'd like to call the Apartments at Denver Place home, contact us to find out more about our pet-friendly Denver apartments.
