Sometimes, procrastination sets in when you can least afford it. If you have a tendency to procrastinate, even in our Denver apartments, you may find that it gets worse when you have a deadline looming over you. The fact is, anxiety can lead to procrastination because procrastination is a way to avoid stress. The next time you find yourself putting off something that really needs to be done, try one of these five techniques.

1. BREAK THE JOB UP INTO SMALL PIECES
One common reason that people procrastinate is that they are simply overwhelmed by the task. If you break up the task into small pieces, it won’t be so intimidating, and therefore you won’t feel the need to procrastinate.

2. GET SOME NEW SCENERY
If you tend to always procrastinate in a certain location, try to set up in a different environment. New scenery can have a refreshing effect on you and put you in the mood to get work done. In our apartments in Denver, for example, you could move your laptop workstation to your patio or balcony instead of in your living room. The fresh air and mountain views will renew your energy.

3. GET RID OF THE INTERRUPTIONS
It’s easier to procrastinate when you keep getting interrupted. Get rid of the disruptive interference by turning off your email client, silencing your cell phone and turning off your social media notifications.

4. SPEND TIME WITH INSPIRATIONAL PEOPLE
If you hang out with people who inspire you with their energy and creativity, you’ll be more likely to want to emulate them when it’s time to get your own projects done. If you don’t know anyone personally who inspires you, try listening to one or more inspiring podcasts.

5. CLARIFY YOUR GOALS
It’s also easy to fall into a habit of procrastination when it’s been so long you forget what you’re trying to accomplish. Clarify your goals by writing them down on paper. Cross off each item as you accomplish it. This linear “map” of progress will encourage you to keep up the good work.

Everyone procrastinates sometimes. But one thing you don’t want to procrastinate is moving into The Apartments at Denver Place. For available floor plans, please contact us.
