Thanks to an incredibly short prep time, you can easily start this recipe before you leave for the day and come home to a tasty, home-cooked meal. ]]>The post 4 Ways to Include Wild Rice in Your Diet appeared first on The Apartments at Denver Place Blog.

Consider these 4 ways to include the health benefits of wild rice into your daily diet!
Add to Chicken Soups or Casseroles
Wild rice can be substituted for half of a recipe's white rice to create a heartier dish exploding with texture and color. When added with the core ingredients of chicken, carrots, celery, garlic, and onion, you can increase the nutritional value of your soups or casseroles.
Great for Vegan Salads
Of course, you can toss wild rice into any of your favorite salads, just as you would do with quinoa and other grains. But the Food Network offers up a bright and sunny wild rice salad that includes toasted pecans, dried cranberries, halved green grapes, and freshly squeezed orange juice — Wow!
Make Your Own Rice Pilaf
Instead of the over-processed, over-salted boxed rice dish, make your own rice pilaf with jasmine or brown rice mixed with wild rice and your own blend of spices and fresh herbs, which can be refrigerated up to 5 days.
Wild Rice Side Dish
Once you get used to the nutty, chewy texture of wild rice, it can certainly stand on its own as a healthy side dish substitute for brown rice. Simply follow the package directions for amounts and cooking times, but substitute a low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth for the water and allow the rice to plump with flavor.

Celebrating the 4th of July wouldn't be complete without some patriotic desserts! Here are 2 easy red, white, and blue ideas you can serve at work or social gatherings this year.
Red, White and Blue Strawberries
Red, white, and blue strawberries are a classy and patriotic treat. They look like you spent a lot of time making them, yet they are fast and easy to make. Melt white chocolate down and then dip a strawberry two-thirds of the way in the white chocolate, leaving the top third of the strawberry untouched. While the chocolate is still wet, dip the bottom third of the strawberry into blue sugar crystal sprinkles. Set the strawberry on wax paper and allow it to dry in your fridge until ready to serve!
Red, White, and Blue Freedom Bark
Another fast and easy dessert to make is red, white, and blue freedom bark. Purchase red, white, and blue melting chocolates at any baking goods store or craft store. Melt the candy down, following the directions on the package. Place a sheet of wax or parchment paper on a baking sheet. Take spoonfuls of the melted colored candy and use it to make swirls or designs, coating the wax paper. Work quickly to ensure the candy does not dry as you are trying to spread it. Once you have poured all of the candy onto the wax paper, allow it to harden and dry in the fridge. This will form a tie-dye looking candy. Break it up into pieces and enjoy this sweet treat.

Once the bacon has cooled, spread some cream cheese on each slice, less than 1 ounce per slice.

When chilly weather settles into the Mile High, you’ve got to have a few go-to drinks on hand to warm your body and spirit. The residents of our Denver, Colorado, apartments love these cold-weather cocktails, and we think you will, too!
1. Boozy Chocolate-Covered Cherry Hot Cocoa
Leave the kids’ hot chocolate for another day. These adults-only hot cocoas are perfect for curing the winter blues. Thanks to a bit of brandy and creme de cacao, your body will feel warm and toasty long after the liquid is gone. Be careful not to drink too many! You’ll definitely want to slurp these cups slowly.
2. Boozy S’Mores Cocktails
If you plan to entertain during a blizzard-inspired snow day, this is the cocktail you’ll want to have on-hand. It’s got just enough child-like whimsy to tug on your heartstrings, but the ingredients are definitely only intended for those 21 and up.
3. Hot Vanilla Milk
Having trouble sleeping? Simply looking for a way to pass the time as you sit by the window and watch the snow fall? Hot vanilla milk will calm your nerves and put you right to sleep when it’s time to lay your head on the pillow.
4. Chai-Spiced Hot Toddy
Warm dark rum will warm your body from your toes to your eyelashes, while the honey and ginger rush in to provide certain healing effects to the body. If you’ve got a stuffy nose or think you’re coming down with a cold, a chai-spiced hot toddy will help clear the airways and make breathing a little easier.
5. Cranberry Orange Yule Mule
Nobody said every wintry drink has to be warm. A cranberry orange yule mule incorporates plenty of holiday flavors while keeping true to the cold copper cup that traditionally houses mules. Toss some fresh (or frozen) cranberries on top, and you’ve got a beautiful cup that’s meant to make this season brighter. This is a great drink to offer if you’re serving up a holiday brunch.
Don’t let winter send you into hiding! The Apartments at Denver Place are the perfect way to experience everything the city has to offer within walking distance of your front door. Check out our available floor plans today!
