Bulb FlowersFew things spell spring like brightly blooming flowers from spring bulbs. Not only do they provide a vibrant visual prelude to the beauty of the season to come, but they provide an amazing fragrance that breathes life. Winters in the Colorado high country sometimes seem to residents of apartments in Denver as if they'll never end, and although you can purchase cut flowers even during the middle of a long winter, you also have the option of going for a more natural look and feel. For instance, you can force spring-flowering bulbs to bloom indoors. Here's what you need to do.

Purchase the Bulbs

Regular spring bulbs won't work for this unless you want to leave them in your freezer for at least six weeks, and for most people, this approach simply isn't practical. It's better to buy bulbs that were produced and treated for the purpose of forcing them to bloom indoors. A type of narcissus called Paperwhites is the most popular type of spring-flowering plant for this purpose, but you can also find regular daffodils, tulips, hyacinths and crocus. If you really want to bring a sneak preview of spring into your indoor living space, pick several of these bulbs and put them in various places in your apartment.

Prepare the Growing Space

The best type of growing space for forcing bulbs is a wide, shallow tray designed specifically for this purpose. Fill it with pebbles: Colored pebbles add to the vibrant ambiance, but you can choose all-white or all-blue varieties for a more formal look. Add enough water so that it almost comes up to the rim. Choose a place that receives bright light, but keep in mind that it's not necessary to place bulbs in direct sunlight.

Be Patient

The bulbs should start to send out green shoots from their tops within a week, but it will be several weeks before they bloom. If you're like most people, you'll enjoy watching their progress on a daily basis and will be thrilled when the first petals begin to emerge from the buds.

We've got several floor plans designed to meet the needs and preferences of a variety of lifestyles. Call us today to find out more about life in our Denver apartment community.

Pizza PartyCozy dinner parties at home are making a comeback in Denver, Colorado – and for good reason. They’re casual, affordable and intimate enough for genuine conversation while connecting with family and friends. There’s no need for it to be stressful if you choose a fun theme and ask each person to bring along a related dish.

International Tapas Party

Sampling new dishes in “small plate” servings is an easy way to explore cultures outside your own, so plan an international tapas party. Choose a handful of countries and do some research on the cuisine and customs. Download songs from each region and learn some country-specific dance moves. For example, a Brazilian yuca pot pie appetizer could accompany a song by Brazilian artist Sandy Leah, while one or more guests show off some samba or carimbo dancing. Place cards around the tables printed with trivia, art, maps and artifacts from each locale.

Indoor Picnic

Toss down a padded blanket and comfy floor pillows for an indoor picnic party. Pick up small inexpensive baskets at a dollar store, and give guests their own picnic basket complete with paper plates, napkins, sandwiches and snacks. Fill a large tub with ice and bottles of lemonade, iced tea and sparkling water. Set a fun summer mood with Hawaiian music or Beach Boys tunes and decorate with colorful frisbees, seashells and flower-filled sand pails.

Pizza Night

Why not spice up an ordinary pizza party with exotic or unusual combinations? Let everyone make their own mini pizzas from several “stations” featuring ingredients that work well together. Italian pizzas are a sure bet, so have one station stocked with marina and Alfredo sauces, meat toppings and Italian cheeses. A Greek pizza station can feature pita bread, mizithra and feta cheeses, ground lamb, artichokes and olives. Concoct vegetarian pizzas with gluten-free flatbreads, Indian versions with naan bread and curry sauce, or Thai pizzas using roti bread and peanut sauce.

Whether staying in or having a night on the town, it’s easy to enjoy life when residing in one of our Denver apartments. Stop by today for a private tour and to check our availability.

Dinner PartyIf you're planning on hosting a dinner party and have never done so before, the most important thing to remember is that successful dinner parties depend on effective planning. The following preparations below are designed to give you the breathing space to relax and enjoy your own dinner party by minimizing hosting tasks.

Stick With Tried-and-True Recipes

Even though you may be tempted to dazzle your guests with your culinary brilliance, your first dinner party isn't the time to try new recipes, so stick with something that's tried and true — even if it's plain old roast chicken or pot roast. It's always wise to prepare the dessert a day in advance so that you don't have to mess with it on the day of the dinner.

Do a Trial Run

If you're fairly inexperienced in the kitchen, consider doing a trial run to help build confidence and to iron out any potential kinks. Prepare the exact menu you're planning to serve at your dinner party, and invite a good friend over whom you trust to be brutally honest about your efforts.

Make a Playlist

Making a playlist designed to last for several hours is a far better approach to mood music than playing it by ear — or worse yet, allowing guests to fiddle with the music. Make a playlist in advance, put it on several minutes before the guests are due to arrive, and forget about it.

Enlist a Friend to Co-Host

Enlisting a friend to act as a backup host helps ensure that you've got your bases covered if you hit snags at some point during the evening. Even if everything goes smoothly, you'll have help with basic hosting duties, such as making sure that beverage glasses are full, putting on a pot of coffee to enjoy with dessert after dinner and keeping track of coats and other outerwear.

Our apartments in Denver, Colorado, feature state-of-the-art kitchens equipped with stainless steel appliances that will make a serious cook out of anyone, and mountain and city views provide stunning backdrops for home entertaining. towelsThere are so many items that you need to house in a bathroom, including towels, soap, shampoo, lotion, make-up, toothbrushes, and hairstyling devices. While the bathroom is usually the smallest room in your home, you can find lots of ways to create more storage space so that it can fit everything you need. Here are a few tips to help you create more storage space in your bathroom.

Declutter to Create More Space

Before you look to create more storage space in your bathroom, first attempt to declutter. Many of the items that are stored in a bathroom have an expiration date. Throw out lotions and make-up that are past their prime. If you have hair care products you don't care for, get rid of them. And stop hanging on to hair styling devices you don't use.

Use a Bookcase, Small Dresser or Hutch

As you look to add more storage space to your bathroom, you may think that adding a piece of furniture to the space will just add more clutter. However, using a tall, thin bookcase, dresser or hutch can provide you with shelves to store all of your toiletries and towels — and help keep things nice, tidy and accessible.

Make Basket Shelves

Another way to create more storage space is to make basket shelves. Instead of hanging shelves, hang a straight line of woven square or rectangular baskets. You can place items such as a roll of toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, hair products or perfume and cologne in the baskets.

Maximize the Space in Your Cabinets

The last way you can create more storage space is to maximize the amount of space you have in below-the-sink cabinets. You can hang a tension rod across the top to hang items such as curling irons, blow dryers or cleaning supplies. You can also place no-damage wall hangers on the backside of the door, giving you space to hang jewelry and headbands.

Having a good-sized bathroom can help to ensure that you have all the space you need for your toiletries. When you are looking for apartments in Denver, Colorado, look no further than The Apartments at Denver Place. We offer spacious apartments that provide you with all the space you need. storageVintage is always in style, even in the sleekest, most modern homes, such as the apartments at Denver Place. With amenities aplenty, life at Denver Place is a designer's dream. And though there's plenty of built-in storage available already, bringing in a few, functional vintage pieces like these add charm and character.

The vintage suitcase

Apparently, travelers owned a lot of clothes back in the 1920s, because the suitcases were huge, ungainly pieces that may have been nightmares to drag from port to port. Luckily, those old behemoths make gorgeous, double-duty coffee tables today. Just mount feet to the bottom to raise them up to coffee table height, and you have a place to set your snacks as well as trendy, hidden storage for throws, remotes and more.

The dressmaker form

Once, they helped ladies design dresses. Today, vintage dressmaker forms help trendy designers create moods. This conversation piece can be placed in a corner of the bedroom as a stylish storage solution for jewelry and scarves or on the balcony, dressed in a pine-bough skirt to celebrate the holidays. Residents who enjoy cooking might display a vintage dressmaker form in the kitchen to hold a lively collection of vintage aprons.

The industrial farm bucket

Vintage buckets lean industrial or shabby chic, depending upon how you treat them. Either way, they're perfect storage containers for everything from rolled towels to rolling pins. Because they come in all sizes, you can even toss in some ice and store drinks for party guests.

The old door and ladder

Vintage doors and ladders are hot items at estate sales because there's a surprising amount of ways to repurpose them. An old, wooden ladder hung horizontally over a kitchen island makes the perfect pot rack when you add large S hooks. And vintage doors hinged together serve as a beautiful screen to hide clutter.

When it's time to dress up Denver apartments, don't forget about the storage. You can never have too much. And when you toss in a few vintage elements to add functionality, you'll love the look. Give us a call today for a tour of The Apartments at Denver Place.

decorWhether you’re moving into a new apartment or you just want a makeover, decorating can be a difficult task. Below you’ll find three creative ideas for decorating your apartment.

Add a Rug

Adding a rug to your apartment can really make your home feel cozy. In addition, rugs do a great job of opening up a room, and they also balance well with other pieces of furniture. Utilizing rugs is an easy and cost-effective way to decorate your apartment. But before you purchase a rug, you should first think about what size to get, what color to choose, what material you desire, and how a rug will mesh with your other design elements. An awesome thing about rugs is that there are many different variations to choose from. Therefore, no matter what theme or look you’re going for in any room in your apartment, chances are there’s a rug out there that's perfect for your space.

Use Plants

Adding plants to your apartment can add natural color and a design element that is very pleasing to the eye. Furthermore, it’s proven that plants in your home actually help to improve indoor air quality. There are many different types of plants that work great for apartments — some of which include:

  • Aloe vera
  • Bamboo palm
  • Rubber tree
  • Philodendron
  • Golden pothos

Adding any one of these vibrant plants to your apartment can help bring your home to life. In addition, many houseplants have calming properties. So whether you suffer from stress, anxiety or constant headaches from everyday life, adding plants can help.

Find Suitable Wall Decor

When you think about decorating your apartment, you always have to consider your wall decor. Are you looking for a rustic theme? Want to add some color? While there are many options to think about, deciding on a decorative look can be tough. If you have a roommate or you're living with family members, be sure to sit down with them to try to decide the best way to decorate your walls. But keep in mind that your wall decor depends on many different aspects of design in your apartment. Contemporary art is a fantastic idea that many homeowners use. You might also choose to cover as much space on your walls as possible with art — without going overboard. While you want some white space, you don’t want an abundance of it.

Keeping your closet clean can be a challenge. By following these 3 tips, we feel that residents of apartments in Denver, Colorado, will find it much easier to whip their closets into shape!

Get everything out of the closet.

Take everything out at once. That way, you do not end up with odd items still crammed into random corners. Start asking the hard questions once you have everything in front of you.

When was the last time I wore this?

How often do I wear this color?

Do I still need these shoes given my current lifestyle?

Most people do not wear 80% of what is in their closet. We tend to default to old favorites or the sparkly new thing we want to show off. Anything you have not worn in at least a year should be donated to a charity that can pass your clothing on to someone in need.

Work in hour-long increments.

It helps to break the work down in time increments. That prevents you from getting overwhelmed by the task in front of you. You can work on organizing your shoes for one hour. The next can be devoted to blouses and sweaters, with pants and accessories taking up a third.

You can use shorter increments if that works better for your schedule. The idea is to keep you on track and motivated. Grinding away for two or three hours leaves you prone to just chucking everything back inside and calling it a day.

Use the in-out rule going forward.

We know you do not want to go through another major closet decluttering anytime soon. Following the "in-out" rule helps keep your wardrobe relatively organized. Do not allow yourself to put something new in your closet without removing an old item. Make sure you stick to this rule for even seemingly small things like a new belt or scarf. These are items that tend to cause a lot of the clutter in our closets.

Here are some DIY tips to assist you in your city apartment in Denver, CO!

Add some personal flooring.

A simple way to add texture to your apartment is to layer your rugs! First, lay down a neutral rug as your base and then stack other more colorful rugs on top. This technique will bring life to your room of choice and it is comparably cheap!

Augment with some artwork.

You can hang your favorite pieces, ensuring first that their weight will not destroy the surface of the walls. For things that cannot be hung, consider leaning your painting of choice against the wall or on top of a table.

Store your things with savvy flare.

Although Denver Place Apartments has ample storage space, you might feel that it is not enough to accommodate your needs. Adding accessories or furniture that can assist with making a statement as well as storage is an excellent idea. A bookshelf is an excellent piece to balance storage with decoration!

Refresh the window treatment.

Add a splash of elegance to your window by hanging a decorative curtain. Most command hooks can serve as an alternative way to drape that colorful pattern and brighten up your space with little to no time or effort!

Here are some simple steps you can take to ensure that your apartment bedroom is set up for the optimal quality of sleep!

Get a Good Mattress

It’s not really a design feature, as such, but if your mattress isn’t right, nothing else you design for your bedroom is likely to help you get your necessary hours of reviving sleep.

Even the best mattresses eventually start to show signs of wear in the form of lumps and lack of support, which can not only spoil your night’s rest but also leave you stiff, sore, and aching the next day.

There are numerous different types of mattress available to suit all tastes and budgets, and buying the best you can afford may be one of the best investments you make in your health and well-being.

Get the Light Right

Keeping your bedroom as dark as possible at night is essential for restful sleep. Use thick, dark-colored drapes on external windows, particularly if they’re exposed to light from the street, other buildings, or the early morning sun.

As much as possible, keep artificial light sources such as TVs, computers, and cellphones outside the room. But if you must have them inside, use purpose-built armoires (wardrobes) to house larger electrical items, and keep phones in drawers or closets.

Choose the Right Colors for Your Bedroom Decor

Most people love to use color to give a light, bright, energy-giving feel to their apartment, but vivid colors are best kept for living areas rather than the bedroom.

Soft creams and pastels, or perhaps blues and greens, are proven to have a calming and relaxing effect on the mood, which is reflected in physical readiness for sleep.

At a minimum, walls, floorings, and curtains should reflect this color scheme, and for best results, bedding and furnishings should also be matched to it.

Adjust the Temperature

It’s tough to sleep well in a room that is too hot or too cold, and for good sleep, you will generally want your bedroom to be a little cooler than the rest of your apartment.

You may be able to achieve this with a smart thermostat. Otherwise, try turning down the temperature throughout the home at night.

If it’s safe and practical to do so, opening a window on a warm night is a great idea or get a portable fan.

Get Creative

Apart from these fundamentals, there are many little extras you can add to your bedroom that may facilitate quality sleep.

Like color, scent can have a powerful effect on mood, and diffusing the vapor of essential oils such as lavender or vanilla can help create a relaxing ambiance.

Natural sounds such as waves breaking on a beach, running streams or the wind in the trees are now readily available electronically, and some people find them extremely calming.

With just a little planning, your bedroom can truly be a haven of peace, relaxation, and a refuge from even the busiest of city lives.

Vacuum
Just like other appliances in your Denver apartments, your vacuum cleaner needs to be maintained. Take the following steps to ensure your vacuum cleaner is operating efficiently!

Empty Canister or Bags

If you have the kind of vacuum cleaner that has a canister instead of a bag, be sure to empty the canister after each and every use. This helps keep the airflow going and prevents clogs.

If your vacuum cleaner uses replaceable bags, don’t wait until the bag is about to explode before replacing it. Buy extra bags and keep them stocked up so you can replace bags when they’re full but still have some room inside them.

Roller Brush

The roller brush is located at the front and bottom of your vacuum cleaner. It helps separate carpet fibers so dust and debris can be sucked up. But the roller brush can also get wrapped with pet and human hair, sewing threads, and other debris. Every other use, make a point to look underneath the vacuum cleaner and remove anything that may have wrapped around the roller brush. This will ensure the roller is free to move as it should.

Vacuum Cleaner Belt

The vacuum cleaner belt is what connects the roller brush to the vacuum cleaner motor. Over time, this flexible rubber can dry out and crack. About every six months, turn your vacuum cleaner upside down, remove the bottom and carefully inspect both sides of the belt. If you see lots of cracks or the belt seems to be inflexible and/or brittle, it’s time to replace it. You can buy a replacement belt online and install it yourself.

Professional Service

Once a year, bring your vacuum cleaner to a specialty shop that services vacuum cleaners. They’ll do a full maintenance service, clean it inside and out and almost make it like new again, when possible.

These simple steps will help to ensure that your vacuum cleaner lasts as long as possible. For more information about Denver, CO apartments and available floor plans, please contact us today!
